EPCHS Band History: 1980's

 

1980’s

The Decade at a Glance

In the 1980’s the marching band marched at the football games, Canton Friendship Festivals, Morton Pumpkin Festivals, ISU Band Competitions, Veterans’ Day Parades, EPCHS Homecoming Parades, Festival of Lights, and Metamora Marching Competitions. The different organizations of the band performed at various contests, spring, winter, Christmas, and fall concerts, Mid-Illini, and the National Honor Society Assembly. In 1980, the marching band was rated as the first place outstanding marching band in the Morton Pumpkin Festival. At EIU, the band was the second runner-up in the competition. In 1987, the band marched in the Festival of Lights Parade. During 1987-1988, the band received first place ratings both years at Mid-Illini. In 1988, the band purchases new uniforms. That same year the band traveled to Washington D.C. and Williamsburg, Virginia. It was there they performed music on the steps of the state capitol building. In 1989, the percussion received a first in parade division at the Morton Pumpkin Festival.

 


 

1980

Director- Mr. Vroman

Drum Majors- Mark Nelson, Judee Sams

Activities: The band performed in the Canton Friendship Festival, EPCHS Homecoming, Morton Pumpkin Festival, and at EIU.

Awards: The band received first outstanding marching band at the Morton Pumpkin Festival, and second runner-up at EIU.

 


 

1981

Director- Mr. Vroman

Drum Majors- Mark Nelson, Stacey Yount, Katy Murphy

Activities: The band play in the Canton Friendship Festival, played at EIU, and at the National Honor Society assembly.

Awards: The band received first at the Canton Friendship Festival, and ranked 45th at EIU.

 


 

1982

Drum Majors- Stacey Yount, Katy Murphy

Activities: The band play in the Canton Friendship Festival, Morton Pumpkin Festival, ISU Band Competition, various parades and festivals, and at the football and basketball games. The band also performed in the winter, spring, and fall concerts.

 


 

1983

Drum Majors- Kris Mayo, Len Veatch, Kris Nyman

Activities: The band play in the Canton Friendship Festival, Morton Pumpkin Festival, ISU Band Competition, various parades and festivals, and at the football and basketball games. The band also performed in the winter, spring, and fall concerts.

Activities: The band play in various parades, festivals, concerts, and at the football and basketball games.

 


 

1985

Activities: The band play in various parades, festivals, concerts, and at the football and basketball games.

 


 

1986

Director- Mr. Vroman

Activities: The band played in various parades, festivals, concerts, and at the football and basketball games.

 


 

1987

Director- Mr. Vroman

Activities: The band participated at the football and basketball games, Festival of Lights Parade, Metamora Marching Band Competition, Mid-Illini, Veterans Day Parade, and a variety of concerts.

1988

Activities: The band went to Washington D.C. and played at the State Capitol . The band also when to Williamsburg, Virginia. The band also participated in parades, festivals, concerts, and at Mid-Illini.

Awards: The band received a first place at Mid-Illini, second year in a row.

Activities: The band play at the Veterans Day Parade, Morton Pumpkin Festival, Mid-Illini, and three concerts (winter, spring, and fall).

Awards: The percussion received a first in parade division at the Morton Pumpkin Festival.
